  • This CLP welcomes Keir Starmer's recognition that campaigning for the 2029 GE 'begins now.'

Notes the low vote share that returned the party to office, lower than 2017 and only marginally higher than 2019. 75% of seats with Labour incumbents fell below the national vote share average.

This CLP further notes that a historically low turnout of 60% reflects an ongoing withdrawal of public consent from the UK's political system.

CLPs have a key role to play in reconnecting politics to disaffected communities. Accordingly, this Branch commits its members and elected political representatives to:

Establish a Community Forum within constituency boundaries, initially inviting Edinburgh Trades Council, community campaigns, community councils, elected LP representatives, and other interested stakeholders to a founding meeting. The aims of this meeting would be to draft the Forum's aims and purposes.

If the Labour government is to secure public trust, carry through its program, marginalise a populist right and win in 2029, it cannot rest on its laurels. Complacency will only benefit our political enemies and opponents. Community Forums can help lock the branch into the everyday concerns and priorities of our constituency, ensuring that when Labour comes to office, it can legislate with the mandate necessary to make change permanent.
